Re: Yanmar Saildrive seacock

Well, I got the fitting out of the Saildrive and it is definitely a tapered thread. It's difficult to confirm the exact standard used in the threads, but consensus seems to be BSPT. I may take it to a friend who owns a machine shop to verify that it's not NPT.

Below are digital caliper ...

Re: Yanmar Saildrive seacock

Hi Bill,
Glad to see I'm not alone in looking for a better solution as the distain for the Yanmar part is easy to find in online searches, though solutions are few if any. I do like the idea of replacing it with a Marelon fitting and appreciate the links. I'll hopefully get down to the boat to ...

Yanmar Saildrive seacock

Yes, this has briefly discussed here before, but this thing broke again and I'm interested if anyone has found an upgraded solution for this critical part that lasts and doesn't require 10.5 turns to operate?

Re: Basic AGM battery replacement

Thank you Dan and Bill for the really helpful advice and for pointing me in the right direction. Our boat does have the 110 amp Balmar alternator, so I'll look for the fuse, though I do not recall ever seeing it before. Otherwise that MRBF terminal fuse block looks like a solid option to include on ...

Re: Basic AGM battery replacement

Thanks guys, really appreciate the input.

Follow up question for you Dan as the addition of a "t-fuse" was part of the confusion that I was having with your prior write-ups. Would you be willing to link me to one that I could use for this specific application? Guessing I would need one for each of ...

Basic AGM battery replacement

After reading countless posts on this site regarding the future of battery technology (fascinating stuff), I am looking for input on what used to be considered a 101 level basic swap of new batteries for old ones.

Our boat is a 2003 TPI build with the standard Balmar alternator, Promariner ...

Re: Mid mast light

Depending on your build date this is likely the model of your steaming light.

Removing it in a bosuns chair/harness is possible, though it falls apart easily, so be sure to hold on tight as I lost a screw on the first try.

After ...

Re: Intermittent water intake

Hi Jerry,
We have hull #41, so around the same build date and ours has a drain hole in the forward bulkhead of that lazarette. Maybe TPI forgot to drill one there. If you are inside the (garage) looking forward towards the head, it is in the lower left corner and as Bill mentioned should drain down ...

Re: Heat Exchanger Challenge

If you remove the top step from the companionway you should have more room to work in there. I would use the wood with a hammer from multiple angles to try to break it loose. Possibly some penetrating oil as well.

Re: Bilge pump timing and water inside the boat

That "after" pic of your repair could be the cover photo for Bilge Monthly, looks excellent. Yours also has a bonus limber hole on the port side of the keel bolt, which I may end up adding.

Good eye on the crack in our bilge. It hasn't changed in the 5 years since the surveyor looked at it and had ...

Re: Bilge pump timing and water inside the boat

Hi Russ,
The area that you are concerned with was part of a warranty repair when these boats were newer. I have never seen a photo of what it looked like before the repair, though the finish quality of these repairs varies greatly. As you can see below, our aft most keel bolt also has the added ...

Re: Mainsheet Swivel Strengthening Modifications Allowed

Finally got around to installing this upgrade and here is a photo of the difference between the two 75mm blocks. Mine had the version with the smaller lower pin, though the hole had begun to elongate, so I upgraded to the newer one.

That's awesome, I'm Very familiar with Republic, she's a great boat with a wonderful owner who races it constantly and does a ton of sailing outreach with groups like Wounded Warriors. That said, she had some hull core material replaced in the past couple years but is still going strong.

Our 109 ...

Re: Bubbles

Hi Russ, Nice work bringing another 109 to Lake Erie and good find on the source of that water infiltration.

Freeze/thaw cracking happened on the cockpit floor hatch behind our rudder post. I was able to cut into the underside skin of it to discreetly remedy and now use a winter cover to avoid ...

Re: Table and Door hardware help

Hi Chris,
I was down at the boat today and took a couple photos of the cabin door hardware. The door handles resemble the ones made by Perko, though there are no markings on this part and instead of a knob on one side these have levers on both sides. They are slightly recessed into the surface ...
