Re: Heat Exchanger Challenge
See figure 15 on page 19 of the parts catalog. I would use a wooden block and hammer on the edge of the bonnet inlet to try and break it loose.

Re: J-109 Gel Coat kit for deck dings?
I had a custom color mixed by Mini-craft of Florida that matched very well. You enter the Hull ID number and they can mix it.

Allowable Cloth for Class Spinnakers
This post by the Class Measurer provides information for allowable sailcloth that may be used for class legal spinnakers. Class rules control the allowable material and require a minimum cloth weight of 40 grams per square meter. It should be noted that only Nylon is allowable, Polyester is not ...

Re: Outboard tracks
This is how I attach an outboard lead. I put Wichard 6mm folding padeyes #6684 that are bolted with backing plates along the deck seam just aft of the stanchion by the shrouds. A block is clipped on the padeye and the outboard lead run outside the lifeline to the clew. The inside runs to the cabin ...

Re: Outboard tracks
Yes I am sure about the jib car track that is installed per specifications. If you are referring to something else, please take a picture of it and post. There is a single pair of jib car tracks on a J/109 as shown in the J/109 Owners Manual on page 12 . This is a picture of a Genoa car that fits on ...

Re: Outboard tracks
They are Harken. The midrange (27mm) series blocks fit on the tracks. The original tracks do not support the captive style ball bearings unless you remove the retainer band holding the balls in. You must use the blue plastic ball bearing loader when installing the cars.

Re: Water Pump
Yes that is unusual. If you have tools such as a bearing puller and press you may replace the rip seal yourself. See the Yanmar 3YM30 parts catalog with the raw water pump diagram Figure 13. You want to replace the o-ring (item 15) and rip seal (item 19). Make sure the shaft is not scored. If it is ...

Re: Gebo Portlight Replacement Parts
What is the process to replace the forward hatch? It came with no instructions. What sealant is used? Do not use a silicone based caulk as you can never remove the residual if you ever need to replace the hatch again. Never use 5200 as it is not removable without significant destruction of the area ...

Re: Bilge pump timing and water inside the boat
Adding to Todds post.... Todd - it appears there is a crack in your laminate. I had similar after a grounding and ended up grinding down the glass to the core, feathered it and a new schedule of laminate using 9 layers of 17 ounce biaxial fabric. After the new glass was applied it was ground smooth ...

Re: How Things Work, Blower Question
This procedure fixes the warm beer syndrome. Here are some pictures of the Sea Frost compressor and filling it with R134a refrigerant. I used a freon sniffer and found a leaking Schrader valve on the inlet fill connection to the compressor, so replaced it. Adding refrigerant is a two person ...

Re: How Things Work, Blower Question
Probably your reefer, and it is low on freon. Turn off the reefer and see if the blower stops. The compressor is located on a shelf port side outboard of the rudder post.

Re: Boom vang replacement
I spoke to Ted and he was able to repair his existing vang. I contacted J/Boats and learned that J/Composites is now using the Nautos Telescoping vang on new builds. This is a link to a vang that should be a direct replacement for the Hall Quickvang model B12. Nautos 91330 Telescoping Vang https ...

Re: Best way to prevent spinnaker sail snaging blocks on spin pole
We always release the pole first before the tack. The pressure retracts the pole. What block is the spin getting caught in? I removed the u-bolt at the end of the pole and use and Antal low friction ring. See your old post at this link . Below are pictures. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/ACtC ...
