J-109 vs other Racer/Cruisers

We race against the other boats on the east coast, regularly against 36.7's. They were all finalist for our search 5 years ago. So here goes ..... The C&C's lost out from sailing functionality. The 109 just sails so much easier short handed for my family of three. Sprit boat - have been KO'd on ...

Terry, we just had a go-round with water in the aft bilge area also. Our issues were a small crack in the stearn shower head that leaked when the water system was pressurized and a fitting on the water heater that leaked only when tanks were fairly full or pressurized.

..... As for measurement we used the luff measure on the sail bag from the sail maker. We put a pendant on the clew so we would more easily attach the sheet while the sail was in the snuffer.

I used several different brands of snuffer on friends boats. Never really impressed so we went with the ATN. Has worked great most of the time. We even got a wrap in the chute while jibing and pulled the snuffer down 1/2 way to just below the wrap and it worked itself out pulling the snuffer back up.

We found our connection box for our mast wiring had been overlooked. It collects a lot of moisture.

Also our shower pump needs work. This is a std 109 issue.

Have noticed that the steering is getting increasingly stiff. Have tried lubricant on the top bearing under the access port and inspected all the steering mechanics but no real cause found. Figure the rudder must be dropped to get at the lower bearing, but can the top rudder post bearing be inspecte...

Jerry,

We use spool shackles on our jib sheets and they work great. Quick and easy to attach or detach lines.
