long delay before water exhausts

Post by Dan Corcoran »

There seems to be a long delay only recently from the time the engine starts, to water appearing at the exhaust. As much as 45 seconds. Does this indicate a problem?

yes! Check the following:
  • Air coming in hose connections on raw water suction side from sail drive, strainer and raw water pump
  • Bad impeller / missing vanes on raw water pump
  • air leak on raw water pump casing / o-ring
  • air leak on strainer cap / o-ring
  • belt slipping on raw water pump

Wow, that was simple. Air leak on the strainer.

Thank you!

To close the thread, the problem turned out to be a loose v-belt between the pump and engine.
