Over 20 knots and on unexpected reaches I would like a simple way to remove the low friction rings. Any solutions?
I had thought to try this, but it released on us the first race we used it:

If it is a long reach, why not rig an outboard lead and barberhaul? Gives a better sheeting angle for the reach than using the regular jibsheet through the car. I have a set of Wichard folding padeyes located near the stanchions by the shrouds just for this purpose.

Yes, we have done this (rig an ouboard lead), which is great for reaching more than 45 AWA.
I thought to use the new Harken block instead of a low friction ring, to have the ability to detach entirely from our inhauler without rigging an additional line, as our inhauler when released goes about 8 inches from the rail which is sometimes not enough.
I am thinking now, maybe to make the existing ring (or an Olli Ring which won't ding the deck), detachable somehow leaving the ring on the sheet, but no longer attached to the inhauler line.
Has anyone done this?

I use Ollie low friction rings. If you ease the sheets so that the rings just hang over the stainless hand rain they are not in the way and are not constantly laying on the deck.
