Allowable Cloth for Class Spinnakers

Post by Vento Solare »

This post by the Class Measurer provides information for allowable sailcloth that may be used for class legal spinnakers. Class rules control the allowable material and require a minimum cloth weight of 40 grams per square meter. It should be noted that only Nylon is allowable, Polyester is not allowed. The following cloths used by various sailmakers are allowed (or heavier weight cloth of the type listed):
Excerpt from Class Rules:
5.6 The class asymmetric spinnaker shall be manufactured from woven nylon with a minimum nominal weight of not less than 40grams per square meter. The area of the sail (“SA”) shall not exceed 108 square meters, based on the formula: SA=(luff length + leech length) *.25 foot length + (half width -.5 foot length) *(leech length + luff length)/3.
Adjustable leech, luff, and foot lines shall be fitted to the Asymmetric spinnaker.
