Trailering a J/109 - height issues

We contracted with a marine transport company to move our boat (#124) from Chicago to Annapolis. The company had a lowboy trailer and they were unable to move the boat due to height and permit issues. The boat was measuring over 14’ even with winches removed. The delivery company says an ultra low boy trailer will work but the height will still be over 13’6ā€. I’m finding this hard to believe with all the boats that seem to move around. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I had Stonnington Marine Transport move my boat. They had to put it on a Ferry from Greenport to New London CT not a far trip ended up in RI. I believe 13'6" was what we had. There was a strap under the keel and the hull rested on big pads on the hydrolic trailer. We didn't remove winches or stanchions.

You could try https://www.brownellboattransport.com/ I believe they go to the mid west.

Contact Mike Burt at Great Lakes Marine Services. They are just north of Chicago and have experience moving J/109's. He is moving mine in two weeks and no need to remove winches or pulpits. These guys are the Pro's! 262-375-3003

Congrats on the boat!
