Hall Boom Vang Required Maintenance

This caught me by surprise, will add it to my annual to do lists, that our vangs require almost annual maintenance. The primary culprit is the interface between steel and aluminum. In addition to potential product failure, if you allow these screws to deteriorate you will not be able to get inside to grease the spring.

Many steel screws need to be removed, coated with anti-corrosive, and screwed back into aluminum. Maintenance is also an opportunity to grease the spring to reduce noise, or lengthen the line so that the block lines up with the bottom tube so that you can better mark vang location.

Rig rite offers replacement parts for our discontinued vangs, that are very expensive. Some parts are 1/3 the cost of a new vang.

The maintenance is very easy and reduces the noise, see the manual here for the recommended products to use, both available on Amazon.

For parts here:

Products recommended in the manual, all available on Amazon as of this writing.
* WD-40
* "FEL PRO C5-A or similar anti-seize lubricant". (a small amount is used, beware it is hazardous to touch this stuff)
* "Lubriplate (or similiar)" grease (a small amount is used)

Perhaps someone can comment if there are better / longer-lasting anti-seize or lubricants to use since the manual was written decades ago.

Tef-Gel is a good anti-seize product that most riggers use.
