East Coast Schedule update

Fellow J109 owners and Friends,

The key one design events for the 2010 season are now updated on the calendar. Please take a look at your schedule and let me know which events you plan to attend. We need a critical mass of competitors to keep 109 racing strong in the northeast, so please do your best to make as many events as you can.

All the best,

Rick

Bill Sweetser Has a Challenge for You

"The RUSH team will proudly display the prestigious East Coast Regatta Series trophy at the Annapolis Yacht Club until someone takes it away."

HOW DO I WIN IT? Compete in this year’s J/109 Mid-Atlantic Championships at the Annapolis NOOD, and the Larchmont NOOD, and achieve the best average points. Each year the Class Association defines the Series events.

WHEN ARE THE EVENTS? Annapolis NOOD - April 30-May 1 & 2, 2010; Larchmont NOOD September 11 & 12, 2010.

WHEN IS THE TROPHY AWARDED? At the Larchmont NOOD’s awards ceremony. The Class Association will ship it to the yacht club you designate where it will remain on display until another team wins it.

IS THERE A KEEPER TROPHY? In 2009 it was a beautiful 16 inch silver tray engraved with the year and names of the Series regattas.

Hong Kong-based J/109 WHISKEY JACK finishes second in China Cup

WHISKEY JACK owner Nick Southward sent the following report to UK Halsey:

“The third China Cup International Regatta, held at Longcheer Yacht Club at Daya Bay in Shenzhen, China, is China’s only international sailing regatta. Teams from all over the world come to participate, in either chartered Beneteau 40.7’s, or IRC racing yachts from Asia. China is new to the art of organizing regattas, so their style may not have been to everyone’s taste. However, if you just wanted to go and sail for four days in good weather, flat water and decent breeze then this was the place to be in late October. We took our J/109 WHISKEY JACK up for the regatta, which consisted of a 32-mile passage race from Hong Kong to Shenzhen on Day 1 and six windward leeward races spread over the remaining three days.

“UK-Halsey Hong Kong’s Barry Hayes has referred to the J/109 as an IRC speed demon, but having a speed demon is one thing; doing everything right to make it win is another.... Fortunately, Barry was with us and we were finally able to prove just what a demon she is.

“The boat was sailing higher and faster than the main opposition..."

LP: 3.47 feet 4.11 m
Half width: 6.12 feet 1.87 m
Three-quarter width: 3 feet 0.91 m
Head width: 0.25 feet 0.08 m

c) A proposal to amend Rule 5.7 to permit the purchase of any three class sails in any calendar year.
PLEASE NOTE: To be effective, rules changes require a 2/3 vote by the Executive Board followed by majority approval of those members voting on line.
We'll advise you of the Executive Board's action as soon as possible.
