Sold: Lots of used sails for sale

OK, time to clear out the storage bin. I have the following five Doyle sails for sale. Make me a reasonable offer on one or more, pay the shipping (or pick up in Boston/Newport) and we may have a deal!! - 2006 One-Design Spinnaker (108 sq m) in red. Dynalite 75 APR 90. This one is pretty soft, so go...

Re: My (New to me) J 109

Frank, Yes, 11 knots TWS seems to be the crossover point I've found where the smaller #3 gives us just as much speed as the #1 but we get to point higher!! You can however use the #1 in more than 11 knots; just keep adding backstay and halyard and keep dropping the traveler on the main. Once you are...

Jack, Thanks for the info. I figured as much! We have been using the 120 sm PHRF kite since 2009 as we have no OD racing up in Massachusetts Bay, and it is a MUCH nicer sailing experience, especially in the light stuff. Do most of the members in the fleet use a .75 or .5 oz cloth weight for the sail...

So can anyone shed some light on what this proposed rule change is all about? Other than the rules itself and the blurb on the front page I have not heard a thing. Not that it matters that much to me as I won't be sailing on Lake Michigan this summer, but my guess is that they use bigger kites out o...

Sold: Class chute (red) for sale

This is a VERY used 108 m2 class kite from 2004, so it would be a practice/delivery/backup kite at best. It is very soft and has had a number of panels replaced over the years. But, on the upside, the first $500 or reasonable offer takes home a lovely spinnaker!!

Sold: Dacron Mainsail for Sale

Time to clear out the old sails to make room for the new. I have a 2009 Dacron Mainsail that was used for two years and always rolled when put away. No slugs, it has a bolt rope for fixing to the mast. The top batten is a full batten, all the others are partial and it has one reefing point. It was $...

Well greetings all! Long time, no see... Now that I am down to just 10 alimony payments to go I am going to be able to get out of my little Mass Bay PHRF sailing world and start doing some J/109 One-Design sailing again. So, thinking about events in 2010 (and replacing some five-yea- old sails) I am...

I would be strongly in favor of option 1, allowing you to change between the two jibs and two kites on the boat, and not restricting their composition as per option 2. I would suggest however that the ability to change the sails NOT be restricted to just between races however. If the conditions chan...

Jim, While I strongly agree with the idea of being able to change out the jib or spinnaker (after blowing up the former at BBR this year and the later at the NAs in Newport) I think you are WAY overthinking the changes needed to the rule. As each boat already is allowed to carry two jibs and two spi...

Let me take the table out! Please?!?!

all, In getting ready for the NAs in Newport, followed by the OD racing at Buzzards Bay Regatta, one of my to-do items on my list is to take the 50 pounds of diver weights OFF the boat, and put the very space-consuming table back on the boat. This leads me to the yearly discussion: Can we PLEASE all...

I am going with however long the headstay is! The people who set up the boat when she was commissioned set that, and I have not adjusted it: and I'm not sure what the measurement is. I like the way the boat works, she goes pretty fast and points very well. But I can't tell you how long it is. I know...

It was pretty easy, although the fact we have the boat in a slip made it much easier than having her on a mooring. After loosening the nuts holding the mast in place, we loosened the shrouds and the backstay, then took the spinnaker halyard and ran it out ahead of the boat. We attached the spin haly...

Tom, We use Doyle Sails, and we started with the 460mm position as the baseline. However, we are usually sailing in less than 10 knots of breeze, so we found that moving the butt back another 10mm greatly improved our performance, letting us sail much higher. It was amazing how different the sail tr...
