Jib & Main Tips and Tricks w/OD sails

I am finding myself in several Jib & Main races this season, enjoying a Friday Pursuit race with a pre-set triangle course we can choose to take either clockwise or counterclockwise, which invariably includes a deep reach, downwind, or both. Would anyone have a polar for Jib & Main only? Any tips an...

Water Pump Rebuild Kit

I have a small water leak on the back side of the water pump.
How much time/effort/skill does it take to do a rebuild on the water pump?

Re: Alternator Belt Dust Fix

What are the benefits to make this worth $487? (for the kit).
Does anyone also buy the $72 belt buddy mentioned in the video?

Re: Mainsheet Swivel Strengthening Modifications Allowed

This important upgrade should be done without delay. I found all the existing metal parts to be fatigued, including one broken part, hidden from view. As I went to install the new kit, I found the base of the old U bracket broken in half, the two remaining pieces held together by a stretched and ben...

Re: clearcoat on sprit failing

A very reasonable $300 is the cost at my local auto shop to strip and paint the UV damaged end of the pole.

Re: clearcoat on sprit failing

Looks like ?
(i) scrape the paint off the portion of the pole that extends out of the J109, with a solid steel knife - hours and hours
(ii) sand with 320 grit
(iii) acetone
(iv) use awlgrip primer and base coat

Re: clearcoat on sprit failing

My clear coat has also peeled off in different places. I am thinking of using the Awlgrip blue paint I already have (blue hull) for touch ups, and painting the end of the pole affected. Anyone have knowledge of how to prep the pole before putting down primer? It looks like I should not be using sand...

Boat Bottom Basics

I have a small bit of exposed keel, and on the hull I have a few blisters next to each other. What are the recommended products to build up new coats of protection after I strip it away?

Re: Boat Storage, water question

Thank you for all this good information. I am going to go looking for that Dam next, if I can get to it with cover on.

With heavy rains, I had to pump water out again last weekend. In just two weeks the water filled about 80% of the two compartments aft of the bilge, total 14 gallons removed.

Re: Instrument updates

I upgraded to B&G H5000 and Zeus 3 in 2017. You can give me a call, Saturday or another time. Bill Kneller is in the process of a B&G upgrade this winter and really knows this stuff just as well. There is a detailed article on my J/109 B&G refit in the February 2018 edition of Practical Sailor Magaz...
