Re: Seeking 20 names to support future vote on lithium batteries. Add your name

I’m still very interested in developing an upgrade path to LiFePO₄ (lithium) batteries for J/109s that is fair to those who do not want to upgrade. Thank you to everyone who has spoken up in either an annual meeting or on the website in support.

So far, those of us that want the freedom to choose ...

Re: Seeking 20 names to support future vote on lithium batteries. Add your name

When your lead acid battery reaches the end, do you want the option to use LiFePO4 (Lithium?)?
* Charges faster with less engine time / wear & tear?
* For battery banks larger than the class minimum, a considerable weight savings. (e.g. compared to 600Ahr of lead acid)

We need 20 names to seek a ...

Re: Yanmar Panel Replacement

This is the ebay link to the product I purchased
https://www.ebay.com/itm/275082009138

Options I got, no cost involved:
- I choose the white gauges.
- I choose the knob replacement for the keyswitch.

Options I wish I got:
- Seal Alarm

Re: Yanmar Panel Replacement

Price was $750 for the panel including the two sensors. Not all panels come with sensors, look carefully. Possibly adding the seal alarm will increase the price.

At a high level, take each of the wires from the existing harness, write down the color code first, cut them near the panel, add ring ...

Re: Seal Alarm

I overcame, what originally looked like a failed component, by using an automotive relay before connecting the output to a standard acqu alarm. When the sensor encounters water, it grounds the output lead. This relay inverts it to a +12v signal used for the indicator light & buzzer.

On Amazon ...

Yanmar Panel Replacement

I had my second season after replacing my Yanmar Panel and thought to share a picture here.

acdcmarine has several versions available on ebay, they build them to order and support your install. I choose the modeled pictured so that I can have gauges rather than idiot lights for the oil pressure ...

Remove Table, access to long stbd floor piece

I am writing to document how to lift the long stbd floor piece to obtain access to cabling. Not that difficult, be careful not to break screws.
1a. Remove a couple of screws, go buy replacements. After 20 years of abuse, they are fragile. There are two lengths, most are the same length with only 3 ...

Re: ss209 Smart Switch

Mystery solved, the previous boat owner replaced the SS209 with a near identical looking product that does not have the delay.

I am going to replace it with the SS209.

ss209 Smart Switch

This advertised to stay on for 15 seconds to sponge the bilge.
https://aqualarm.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=204

Mine does not do that. The entire on interval is as short as 3 seconds, enought to lower the water level, and then over 15 minutes the water comes back in and it ...

Re: Bow Pulpit Repair or Replacement?

Weld repair successful. $99

Lesson learned:
- When installing synthetic lines, don't lead the middle lifeline through the bow pulpit to the bow. Instead terminate it on a friction ring before the pulpit, then lash the friction ring to the turnbuckle at the front of the pulpit. When done this way ...

Re: Bow Pulpit Repair or Replacement?

I have a similar problem. The screw under the port side bow pulpit, with the wire going through it, spins as I tighten the nut.

I am wondering if I should pre-order a part before I remove the pulpit and bring to a welding shop, or maybe do all four. This is the second position on the pulpit that ...

Re: Seeking 20 names to support future vote on lithium batteries. Add your name

Count you in! Thank you for the thoughtful questions.

On class racing, no advantage. If my proposed rules are accepted, the J/109 would be upgraded as a true dual battery system with additional ABYC requirements like fuses, plus wiring and switches so our boats can fully operate on one battery if ...

Hall Boom Vang Required Maintenance

This caught me by surprise, will add it to my annual to do lists, that our vangs require almost annual maintenance. The primary culprit is the interface between steel and aluminum. In addition to potential product failure, if you allow these screws to deteriorate you will not be able to get inside ...

Crew Manager

I want to share how highly I think of Crew Manager, the application Bill Kneller created and sells. Since my team and I started using it, I make fewer communication mistakes with crew, spend less time coordinating logistics, and on the whole, more crew are participating in races, 20% or more by my ...
