Re: Additional Genoa Cars
Have you chosen a Genoa car? There seems to be many part number options. Which model did you go with?

Re: Do you wish to see lithium batteries added to class rules?
Please reply if you wish the class to invest technical efforts into expanding battery rules beyond lead acid into Lithium. I thought I heard at least 4 people desire this for cruising their sailboats. Others might simply not want their next 10yr battery investment to be lead acid again. Please also ...

Re: Outhaul Line Replacement - How long? Other Advice?
Not the full answer here, just writing to say I had not thought to use an Antal ring. There might be a plus to that, even if it adds some friction. I have taken this apart and reassembled it five times, twice finding nothing wrong and wondering if things just got twisted inside as the problem went a...

Do you wish to see lithium batteries added to class rules?
Please respond to this thread if you wish to see lithium batteries supported? Please jump in and say so, along with 1. If this was available now, would you (i) buy it now, and if not, in what calendar year in the future would it be relevant to you. 2. why? Your answers decide if volunteers such as m...

Looking for Lithium Battery Volunteer
Looking for a volunteer. I am a proponent of bringing lithium batteries into the class, especially as I cruise, and the costs have come down to the point that a lithium battery is cheaper (per "usable" Ahr). See my past post on this forum, the safety issues are significant when just droppi...

Re: Wanted: 145% Genoa for PHRF
I had a 155% with my boat I actually sold, never gave it a try, prior owner warned me it is too much sail. The Hathaway was slightly used at the time, and I went with that for a couple of seasons. When I went for a new one, I chose Quantum 135% and have been mostly happy with it the last two years. ...

Re: Lithium batteries for J/109 class
(continue the above) Purchasing Fire Fly's competitor product (since FireFly had no stock at the time) had me realizing this and upgrading the protection system of the 109, which became a little involved (primarily for space reasons). For example, the starter and alternator use a single conductor re...

Re: Lithium batteries for J/109 class
See my comments below - Dan Corcoran I am looking to convert to Lithium batteries. Why are they not class legal? If it's due to weight can't we just add a small sandbag or other weight to the battery compartment to account for the deficit? --> Ans: It started as a weight concern and maybe some weigh...

2024 Technical Committee Requests
I respectfully ask for the new committee to undertake the following for 2025 (1) Update class rules to allow for lithium batteries providing all conditions are met in a system upgrade (i) Using the safer LiFePO4 Chemistry (ii) the overall electrical system is brought up to date to be in compliance w...

Re: Wanted: 145% Genoa for PHRF
I show the availability of used equipment I have for J/109's here:
Would 138% work? It is available for $650.
Beware, with 138% you need people on the rail when the winds reach 13 knots.
