Dan - It's Newport in the summer. You don't want to be driving. Bring a dinghy or hail the Oldport launch! Why don't you call the NYYC sailing center and see what they might arrange.

Re: genoa car block replacement
I just looked at the Ronstan block specs for the Harken equivalent. It appears that Ronstan blocks are rated for more load than the Harken blocks. Ronstan RF41500 Block Specs Sheave Ø (in): 1 9/16 + 15/16 in. Maximum line Ø (in): 5/16 in. Weight (oz): 3.2 oz. Shackle pin Ø (in): 3/16 in. Maximum wor...

NYYC does not have a lot of transient spots. Best to contact Sail Newport and line up dockage there.
ps - Good info on dockage at the 2017 J/Fest New England page.

The owners manual specifies a 40mm Carbo Fiddle block Harken 2655 which is rated at 485 lbs maximum working load, 1620 lbs breaking load. Perhaps increase the size to a 57mm Carbo Fiddle block Harken 2621 which is rated at 792 lbs maximum working load, 2380 lbs breaking load. http://www.harken.com/U...

Re: Winterize Head
You can close the hull valve, then remove the seawater hose from the intake of the head. I use a temporary hose and pump the pink antifreeze through the head to winterize it that way. Once the boat is hauled, I open the hull valves to drain the dead legs.

J/109 Class Support at Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stop May 2018
Sail Newport has approached the J/109 Class to see if we would be interested in providing stake boats for the Volvo Ocean Race Newport stopover in May 2018. This is an early announcement to identify who might want to be a stake boat. Please email president@j109.org to indicate if you are interested....

Re: J109 trailer
Whoever buys this trailer - please post here. There aren't many trailers out there with the capacity to carry a J/109. There will probably be folks interested in occasional use for getting to some distant regattas with a trailer like this. It would be great to connect the new trailer owner with folk...

Re: Water sloshing around floor boards
The bilge is shallow and the limber holes are too high to get good drainage. The water will not drain forward, particularly with the boat healed. My seat under the Nav station gets water in it and does not drain. Many J/109 owners are looking for various water sources. Things found so far include: L...

Re: LED lighting
Not all the boats have the same exterior lights, so I can't tell you exactly which bulbs to use in the existing fixtures for sure. Many of the bases are common and are easy to cross reference. Best bet is to pull out the old bulbs and match them that way. Be careful when retrofitting red and green l...
