Re: Moving speed sensor to centerline

John, I currently have an analog Airmar speed paddlewheel mounted on the centerline as input to a B&G H5000 Hercules processor and it provides very good speed information. It is definitely worth the effort if you are serious on getting good readings for speed and the resulting true wind calculat...

Re: Leak from Chainplate bolts

The starboard side was completed today. This documents what was found and what was done. Since there was some salt water intrusion, the tang cup and cap had some salt build up that made loosening it a problem. The steps followed: 1. Loosen and remove shrouds 2. Unscrew the 3 phillips head screws and...

Re: Leak from Chainplate bolts

John, This is very good information. Thanks for posting. I'll do the additional checks for core as you suggest. The top cap is supposed to have Loctite on the threads so I plan on disassembling and cleaning those pieces too. For the NDT test, I will do a die penetrant inspection. That's fairly easy ...

Re: Leak from Chainplate bolts

Todd, Thanks for the info. I did see that old thread. It turns out there is a drawing on page 17 of the J/109 US owners guide that Bengt told me about. I've ordered a 2.2" spanner wrench that will permit unscrewing the cap located on the underside of the deck. This will allow removing the upper...

Leak from Chainplate bolts

This past season, I've started to see weeping drips on the underside of the three screws holding the chainplates to the deck. I would like to remove and re-bed the chainplates to stop the leak but am unsure how this comes apart. Three photos are shown below including: 1. Topside 2. Under deck view -...

Re: Replacement fuel gauge?

When I had similar symptoms I found a loose connection on the contacts where the harness attached to the fuel gauge located on the top of the tank and that fixed the problem. I would measure the voltage at the engine panel fuel gauge connection. There should be 3 wires including +12V, Ground, and th...

Do you mean the inhauler on jib sheet? If so, we use the same thing. Don't flog the jib!

You could probably get a local machine shop to make one for you pretty easily.

Re: Main Sheet Rope Type

Carl,

The 11mm is just too thick to easily run through the blocks. The high tech lines have very little stretch and 3/8" diameter is sufficient.

Best regards,

Re: Main Sheet Rope Type

I like the Samson WarpSpeed II . It is 24 strand polyester cover with Dyneema core. I use 3/8" x 95 feet with eye splice on one end, whipped on opposite end. New England Ropes Endura Braid Euro Style is a similar line that is also good. Both of these lines are widely available at various chandl...

Re: 3GM Exhaust Elbow

That isn't a fuel line. The line feeding into the exhaust elbow is the spray from the cooling system.
