A stronger upper bearing race prototype unit was built and load tested to just over 4000 pounds. The design was completed by Bam Miller at Oyster Bay Boat Shop. Re: Instrument upgrades

Great advice. I actually considered the Garmin GNX displays for my mast when I upgraded to an all B&G H5000 system this winter. The B&G 20/20 displays were pricey and the Garmin displays provided a better display surface with more information available. Unfortunately since the rest of the sy...

Sold: Marine Electronics For Sale (Raymarine, Nexus, B&G, West Marine)

It is time to sell equipment removed from Vento Solare that is collecting in my basement as various upgrades are done. The following are available at the prices listed, plus shipping cost. I've included groups of equipment so you can purchase a group for a better deal than individual items. Summary ...

Boat Calendar & Website

I wasn't sure which forum to post this in, but since it pertains to scheduling, thought the Events and Scheduling forum was most appropriate. Bottom Line: You can have your own boat website with an integrated calendar, crew scheduling and automatic notifications just like the one I use for Vento Sol...

Re: Instrument updates

Matt, I'm in the process of upgrading everything from a Nexus Server based system to an all B&G system using the H5000 Hercules processor as the brains. You can check out a previous thread at this link on the forum for earlier upgrades I did with some Raymarine stuff. I'll be putting some of tha...

Re: Refrigeration - compressor location

Mike, On US built boats the compressor is on the port side outboard the rudder post, adjacent to the aft bulkhead of the aft cabin. There is a pedestal made that raises it about 9 inches off the hull and is level when the boat is level. Next time I'm crawling back aft, I'll see if I can snap a pictu...

Re: Boat Storage, water question

When the cover is off in the spring have someone go around all of topsides with a hose while you crawl below. You be surprised what you find. That is how I located most of my leaks that I was able to stop.

Re: Boat Storage, water question

Dan, Potential sources that I found and fixed. The hole where the steaming light cable goes through the mast was a source. Water wicked down into the mast junction box. A dab of caulk on the hole fixed it. Other potential sources: Rectangular access cover to steering gear behind wheel - gasket was s...

Engine Control Lever Maintenance

I know many have issues with the plastic parts on the engine shift control lever getting UV damaged and cracking. I did some research and found that the engine shift control lever installed on many US built boats is the UFlex model B85. I posted the installation and maintenance manual on the Drawing...

An update for the Sprit seal. I recently ordered a replacement - Nitrile Rubber Rotary Lip Seal made by Parker Part # 6652 H1L7 The supplier had a minimum buy order from Parker and has stock available on the shelf now. Re: Main sheet lower block upgrade

from the previous post: " The Harken midrange swivel, 1574, fits the existing platform, sports a 280 offshore cam cleat and should be much stronger. It utilizes 1/4" fasteners and 5/16" pins which accept the 1550 midrange ratchet block. This is a readily available stock piece of hardw...

Re: water hose from deck to gland

Adding to the knowledge here. I'm replacing the white corrugated fill hose since it has some cracks. The hose is just under 7 feet long on both sides - deck fill to the 90 degree elbow on the bladder tank. The replacement will be Trident Reinforced PVC Tubing - 1-1/2" available from Defender .

Re: Password reset and seamless login to forum

Thanks JR but don't jump the gun too fast on the forum login. I haven't fully integrated the new password system with the forum yet, so some people's results may be different. The main website password system is going through beta tests now and should fix the problem where the system "forgot&qu...
