Re: Recommended Battery Replacement
Hi Dan, Replaced our batteries a year ago. We do a variety of overnight races and find having 3 group 31 batteries to last very long (2 house; 1 start). They are so good that we probably could get away with just two. I am uncertain as to whether downgrading to group 27 would be beneficial. What I ca...

Masthead sheave upgrade
Has anyone upgraded their masthead sheaves from the original delrin (I think) sheave? I ordered the aluminum version from RigRite, but they are much heavier and I really do not want 10X more the weight aloft. This was the closest I could find via Harken: http://www.harken.com/productdetail.aspx?id=5...

US Watercraft/Waterline Auction
As many of you may have heard, US Watercraft is in receivership and there will be an auction Nov. 11th (link below). I was planning on ordering a few sprit parts this winter from Waterline Systems, but it looks like that will be impossible. Also, in the past, Waterline has been very helpful in pinpo...

Re: Water sloshing around floor boards
What Bill mentions pretty much covers my problems. Rudder was main source; rubber gaiter was solution. I would add that I had a crack on the threads of my freshwater stern shower head that, when pressurized, would drip down the hose and settle under the quarter berth floorboard.

Tweaker for Code 0
I am curious as to how others have set up or positioned a tweaker for their Code Zeros. Any consensus on where this should be added, if at all?

Re: Strengthening Sprit Retrieval Attachment on Bulkhead
Bill,
I will be performing this modification over the winter...Do you recall the size of the new pad-eye you used? Just wanted to order the parts without making a trip to the boat. Thanks, Matt

Shortening backstay
It appears that after more properly tuning the rig my backstay may need to be shortened (maybe 4 inches)...I am unable to put nearly as much tension on the stay with the hydraulics. Has anyone else had to shorten their backstay over time? I just want to be sure that I am not totally missing somethin...

Bill,
I remember seeing a video of a boat that was for sale that had this option. See the link below and jump ahead to 5:14. This may provide you with something to work with...

North Sails Tuning Guide
Has anyone noticed that the 2014 North Sails Tuning guide has an error? I think the guide has mislabeled the "D1s" and "D2s". The guide states that the D1 base should be 15, while the D2 base should be 27. For me, I have always set the D1s (LOWERS/BOTTOM) to about 27 and the D2s ...

Re: Rudder bearing replacement
FYI, I had to replace the gaiter this spring because over time it became cracked. I purchased the gaiter from PYI Inc. Did not have to drop the rudder. Just requires a few c-clamps and careful gluing. Accessing via the rectangular deck cover behind the helm made things easier. See the link below to ...

ProSafe1 Monitoring System
Has anyone experienced problems with their Prosafe 1 monitoring system not functioning? My control module is receiving power (fuses are intact as well), but the green indicator light is not on, nor is the separate monitor. I am sensing the unit may be fried. Of course, this is a discontinued unit, s...

Stress cracking or crazing near mast (deck)
Hello,
Yesterday, I was quite surprised when I noticed this crack (photo) appeared just forward of my mast. I have heard that stress cracking (or crazing) near the mast is common on some J/105s. How common is this problem on other 109s, and is it cause for concern?
Thank you
Matt
