Re: Main Halyard Cluch Slipping

Jerry, In my pictures above I use the CT310P001 model and the 10mm line. They work great. I used 1/16" G10 under the overhead for backing plate with stainless washers and nylock nuts. It's been a while since I did this but I believe that I over drilled, epoxy filled then redrilled to isolate. P...

Re: Mainsheet Swivel Strengthening Modifications Allowed

Jerry, In addition to the modification with the larger clevis pin I also put a "safety constraint" using 3 loops of spectra tied around the lower portion loose enough tp permit free rotation, and the same at the upper portion. That way if the clevis pin breaks you don't loose control of th...

Re: Mystery Plumbing Mistake

Hand over hand the piping. My guess is they misconnected the vented loop on the overboard discharge. See this thread with some really good diagrams others submitted.

Re: Code Zero Modification for Halyard & Tack Line

Thanks Bengt. Based on that ruling I will setup a configuration that permits easily swapping out the tack line clutch by putting captive hardware on the inside where the existing single clutch fasteners attach. That way I can easily change out the single or stacked double clutch arrangement so for O...

Re: 20 year Maintenance

Now that it will be new- any suggestions on the best system to tune up/down rig turnbuckles without damaging them? I had used the specific wrench size and a long flat screwdriver, but over time it just got too worn that I couldn't tune the rig. Just looking for a better system if there is any. Jerr...

Re: 20 year Maintenance

How often should rod rigging be replaced if there are no observable problems? What was the cost to replace rod rigging, where to purchase? If the cold heads are accessible (e.g. swaged fittings not peened), a rigger can disassemble and inspect them for cracks. If no cracks and turnbuckles look good...

Re: 20 year Maintenance

Todd,

I am aware of two failures. I had my rig inspected in 2017 when it was down and the inspection reveled no changes were required. Last year when I had the rig replaced due to storm damage, it came with the new design. Check with Skip. He may have some history and a recommendation.

Re: Hot water

Sorry - misunderstood the original question. No - that only controls the electric element. You'll need to install a mixing valve on the supply side of the engine HW feed to regulate the supply temperature if you want to control the temperature using hot water from the engine.

Re: Hot water

Dan,

There is an adjustment via a thermostat on the front side of the water heater. See pages 12 & 13 in the Quick Nautic Hot Water Heater Boiler BX16 Rev05A - Manual - 1/1/2010 posted on the J/109 website.

Re: 20 year Maintenance

Jerry - my comments annotated below: 1. To double check for class rules it should be the Harken MarkIV Unit 1? ** yes - Mk III or MkIV Unit 1 2. Turnbuckles being replaced and rod rigging inspected ± replaced. ** Good - with continuous rod rigging it is creased where it bends at the spreader tips. T...

Re: Sails and Rules

Bart, Any sailmaker may measure the sail and register it. The original sail maker should have done that. The sail tags are available on the class website for the sailmakers to purchase. The "large" spinnaker may have shrunk and can be measured. At some OD events for the J/30 class some spi...

Re: Making the inhauler adjustable on both ends.

Dan, I'll let the measurer comment with the official interpretation but this I believe is allowed. The applicable section in the class rules states: 4.3.7 The Jib may be in hauled forward of the mast with the lazy sheet or behind the mast in a horizontal manner with a control line system For history...
