Re: reparing wood finish
Unsure if sanding and refinishing would work on severely water stained areas (deeply dark areas). Minor fades should not be a problem though. Just be very careful to not sand too deep or aggressively on laminated areas (laminates are thin). Refinished my stair(s) last spring (and wood handrails). Ep...

Re: Jib Harken Cam Cleat
Dan, If you have not, make sure you try shooting in some McLube (or better yet, Harken OneDrop bearing conditioner) to see if you can get the cleat functioning again. Otherwise, you will need to remove to replace or fully service. Harken 150 Standard Cam-Matic is the replacement (Hull 251). Make sur...

Re: ProNautic Charger Ground and Engine connections
Dan,
I was able to trace the black cable to an opening in the wiring harness (indicated in red on photo). I plan to take a longer look next week to figure out where it is ultimately coming from (in hopes to figure out where it attaches).

ProNautic Charger Ground and Engine connections
While at the boat today I was surprised to find a few ground cables not connected. First, I noticed the green ground was not connected to the ProNautic charger. Secondly, I noticed within the engine compartment another ground (black) that was disconnected. I am assuming this connects to the alternat...

SD20 Internal Anode (Fresh Water)
Does anyone know who stocks replacement internal magnesium anodes for the sail drive? I sail in Freshwater. Perhaps I should just replace it with the basic zinc version, which seems to be more available.

Re: Edson Steering Wheel
Same issue on 251. There is an Edson technical bulletin under the info tab that suggests replacing the star nut with a nylock nut. I gave them a call via the contact on the bulletin and they were very helpful. I have found the nylock nut much easier to tighten, and, paired with loctite and a washer,...

Re: Replacement Boom Vang Tang
Replaced mine this spring. Similar issue with hairline crack on aft-facing edge, which freaked me out. I would recommend others take a close look at their tang welds. I ordered the replacement from Rig-Rite (make sure they send you the version that is the matching replacement; they originally sent m...

Re: Instrument updates
Bill, This Sailing Anarchy thread is extremely valuable. It is good to know that the Type 1 Linear is compatible with B&G Pilot. Also, it looks like the rudder angle sensor would be an easy swap if switching. As always, thanks for the documentation of all these changes. BTW, hearing really good ...

Re: Boat Storage, water question
Dan, I had a similar problem the first year with mast up. Most, if not all of the water was coming from the mast. A few things helped greatly: ensuring a tight fit of the mast boot and adding silicone (or Lifeseal), especially within the main track just above the vang fitting (water tends to literal...

Dan,
Thank you for the info. The Practical Sailor articles help narrow things down a bit (as usual). I will try to connect with you to get some further pointers.

Instrument updates
Curious if anyone has recently updated their instruments. I have an older complete system of Raymarine instruments (C120 chartplotter, several ST60+, S2G Autohelm, Type 1 linear drive, usual Raymarine/Airmar transducers, AIS 500). The newer Raymarine systems are appealing and seem to be a more logic...

Masthead VHF Antenna/Windex and wiring update.
Now the mast is down I am looking to address a few issues I have noticed over the years...First, looking to replace my masthead VHF/AIS antenna. Currently have a Shakespeare antenna which the Windex slides over. Just curious if others have a different/better setup. Additionally, I am planning to rep...

Floorboard screw replacement
I have been wanting to replace many of my floorboard screws that are becoming corroded and/or are broken. Anyone happen to know where to find the darker screws? Or has anyone modified their floorboards with a more efficient system? These look like an appealling replacement...http://pyiinc.com/floor-...
