Re: Winter Cover Special
I have an earlier version of this North cover (2 sections rather than 3) that came with the boat when I purchased it from the previous owner in 2013. He had it made for the boat in 2006. These covers are great. Every few years I have the stitching inspected and redone where needed. I also created a ...

Re: Propeller replacement
Good luck Carl. I just went to the Flexofold site to get further information for the Technical Committee. They were acquired by Yanmar but still maintain their autonomy. For the TC - The composite hub is dimensionally the same and weighs 2.8 Kg (6.17 lbs) less than the bronze hub. Links below for th...

Re: Propeller replacement
Bengt - it was what Flexofold had in stock when I needed a replacement air shipped in 2017 seven days before Block Island Race Week. I'll need a waiver for class racing for the future. I have to say the composite hub is identical in size and profile to the bronze hub and offers the advantage of elec...

Re: Propeller replacement
Carl,
I replaced my prop in 2017 when it inconveniently fell off. These are the parts that Flexofold shipped from Denmark.

Re: Spartite Mast Insert Moving
Once you move it back in place try a bead of silicone around the mast / spartight interface and let it set before covering with the boot. My guess is the surface was cleaned when the mast was removed resulting in a low friction interface. I had similar issues when my new mast was installed.

Re: Charter J-109 available California
Dan, The class has made loaner boats available for North American championships, most recently at the NAs at Pequot YC in 2022 (Courageous sailed Morning Glory) and Chicago in 2021 (Growth Spurt sailed Slapshot). These were arranged with the respective owners. I'm not sure if money changed hands but...

Re: Head of Main Sail Pops Out of Track
Carl, The Tides Marine track is an after market add-on for the J/109 and not the one design standard. The original Sparcraft mast is setup for one design sails with a luff rope. Some have sails made with the luff rope replaced with slugs such as the Bainbridge A117 . I would check with a local rigge...

Re: Furling block location
That's the correct location. You may want to use a smaller diameter line with spectra/dyneema core so it doesn't take up as much space on the drum. Also, see if you can close up the gap between the cage and the drum. It looks excessive.

Re: What part is that Standup Harken Block? Ratchet useful?
It's a Harken Hexaratchet block. Google it and you'll see various sizes and configurations (swivel, becket, cam cleat, etc.). I usually have the ratchet off but in heavy air it is helpful.

Re: Lithium batteries for J/109 class
I just installed a Lifeline Group 31 AGM as a replacement for my previous North Star AGM. No changes needed for the charging system setup as this is basically the same. I'll report how battery life and charge / discharge times are later this season.

Looks much better. My guess is you will see immediate improvement first time you start the engine.
