Re: 3GM Exhaust Elbow

I am about to replace my mixing elbow.

Why are there fuel lines in the picture on this thread? Do I need to disassemble the fuel system?

Loss of coolant

I am not losing coolant now, but I lost some and am unconvinced I found the problem. When preparing my 109 for spring I found that about 30 ounces of coolant were missing from the engine. I have never lost a drop before now. In a brief engine run after adding coolant, I lost about 2 oz of fluid into...

Re: Companionway Top & Slider Removal

Step 9: Position the companionway top on top of what ever you have available that is about 2 inches high. Step 10: Vacumm everywhere so that in the following steps you are not tracking dust around. Step 11: Fill each hole with butyl tape Step 12: Clean with acetone the companionway top and the surfa...

Huntington Race for the Case + Practice Starts

I am writing to promote this year's Race for the Case (of Rum), won last year by my J/109 Strider Crew & I. The Race for the Case, on May 21st and 22nd, will feature an hour of practice starts from 9:30am-10:30am to give visiting yachts an additional incentive to make their way to the Huntington...

Companionway Top & Slider Removal

Writing to post my experience on this project. The purpose of this project was to eliminate a small water leak. Step 1: Panic, is this project to big for me. What can I learn about it. Thank you Bill Kneller! Step 2: Supplies needed: - Gelcoat, this is the time to fix anything found. - Sikaflex-291 ...

Re: Lithium batteries for J/109 class

Making progress on this. Is there a J/109 owner, that does not do class racing, implimenting Lithium that would be interested in collaborating? As I cannot make the changes to my own boat without causing a rule violation, and frankly don't see a weight benefit in a safe design even if I could, I wou...

Mystery Plumbing Mistake

My crew helpfully replaced the plumbing lines behind the head and replaced the manual overboard waste pump which was leaking. When they were done, pumping the toilet causes liquid waste to go our the air vent (the tank is not full) I cannot imagine what plumbing mistake can cause this, can any of you?

Re: Gelcoat Product for J/109?

Received the product, ordered with wax. Mini-craft does not provide instructions. Called in, they spoke very quickly. I think I heard the following, is this correct? where does the high gloss get used? how much? when fixing spider cracks, can I combine this with colloidal silica to thicken? Could us...

Re: 20 year Maintenance

What size of those Knipex pliers are you using? The links point to a 5" plier but protective caps for 10". Do you use it without the caps?
Thanks!

Re: Lithium batteries for J/109 class

Writing to update everyone on the first post in this article. Marine electrical ABYC Standards for Lithium Batteries on boats in the US won't be out until July 2022. It may be optimistic that I have something to offer up for the class rules this year. We may need to wait for new battery products tha...
