Where is the water from?

Post by Dan Corcoran »

Came back from BIRW and found couple of inches of water in the compartment under my nav station seat.

Can't imagine how it got there.

Anyone experience this problem before?

Yes - at various time with various sources.

Things I've found and fixed on Vento Solare - my bilge is dry now:
1. Raw water pump shaft leaked when engine was running (Replaced pump)
2. Neoprene Gaiter over rudder stock past end of life leaked when there were pounding seas, causing water to drip in bilge (Replaced Gaiter)
3. The rectangular cover on the deck over the steering gear gasket leaked (Sealed with Lifecaulk)
4. Gasket on NAVPOD where cable passed through pedestal was torn causing rainwater to be directed inside pedestal directly to bilge (Caulked torn gasket)

Things others have found:
1. Water heater hoses not tight enough causing fresh water to leak to bilge
2. Water bladder tanks leaked and needed replacing
3. Fresh water hose connections leaked on pressurized water system
4. Exhaust hose not clamped tight enough on thru-hull causing seawater drips
