Masthead sheave upgrade

Post by Mvallus »

Has anyone upgraded their masthead sheaves from the original delrin (I think) sheave? I ordered the aluminum version from RigRite, but they are much heavier and I really do not want 10X more the weight aloft. This was the closest I could find via Harken: http://www.harken.com/productdetail.asp ... &taxid=396

Original: FM2C Masthead Sheave w/ 12mm ID - Aluminum: NG2-3AB12

I replaced mine with black delrin last year. Make sure to use stopper balls on the halyards to prevent shackles from damaging the sheaves.

Are the jib halyard and spin halyard sheaves the same ones? Rig tite part NG2-3B12?

John,

I don't think they are. On the class website menu mouse over Info and click on Drawings & Manuals. In the Equipment Manuals section look for the Charleston Spar (Sparcraft) J/109 Mast Manual – 6/10/2009. It has a very good illustrated parts summary.

Figured it all out:

2xNG2-3B12 (spin halyard sheaves)
2xNG1-4 (jib box sheave)
