I have a small water leak on the back side of the water pump.
How much time/effort/skill does it take to do a rebuild on the water pump? https://tinyurl.com/y25a67zp

I rebuilt the pump on my previous J/30 with a Yanmar 2GM. It requires a vice, split ring pliers and patience. It was done in an afternoon and worked fine. If you have some mechanical expertise, it can be done using the Yanmar service manual as a guide.

if The bearings are good you can replace the rear pump seal with the pump installed on the engine. A piece of bend rod will help push the seal out from the back of the pump. I did mine a couple of weeks ago. Once the impeller is removed push the seal out from the back towards the front of the pump. Insert the new seal and reinstall the impeller. It should only take a couple of minutes. This video might help.
