Engine control cables

My stop engine cable and clutch/throttle cables are getting difficult to move. Has anyone replaced theirs? If so, what are the part numbers?

Thanks,
David

So here is the relevant information about each cable:

The governor and the shift cable are identical at 12'. The original cables were Teleflex CC17212 cables, but they are no longer being produced. The direct replacement is the Teleflex 3300. But wait, there's more: Teleflex is now Sea Star. Look for the Sea Star 3300. You can find them on eBay for about $35 each.

The stop cable is 13' long and the original is made by Yanmar. The correct Yanmar part number is 129470-67550 and is 13.1" long. Oldport Marine and Marinedieseldirect have them for about $40.

Replacement is fairly easy. The very cramped spaces make the job harder and longer to complete.

There is another J109 owner who made a very helpful explanatory video.

Good luck,
David

Thanks for the shoutout regarding my old video, it was fun to make. My cables are now so smooth that it is a bit of a problem. I haven't found a way to tighten down the handle enough to hold the speed regulator in one place during low rpm use. It holds fine at idle, medium and high speed.

By the way, I threw away my old cables, but now I wish I had kept one of them. Recently I watched a video of how to clean the salt water side of a heat exchanger, and one professional offered a tip. He uses part of an old cable inserted into a drill, to ream out the salt water tubes. Evidently the cable he uses is flexible enough to make the 90 degree turn in the opposite end, allowing him to clean around the bends inside the heat exchanger. I don't remember the diameter cable he used, but it might be worth a careful try. He ran the drill in reverse because his cable would untwist and fray if run clockwise.

I had a similar issue when I replace the cables on my previous J/30. I put two stainless rope clamps gently tightened near the and of the cable to provide some friction.
