Stern Light Overheating

When I purchased Strider the Sternlight was melted a bit, and going through bulbs quickly. I replaced the bulb with an LED bulb and didn't realize until now it is also overheating, compensating by turning half the elements off and blinking after it warms up. Seems like the enclosure is too small / too well insulated.

Anyone encounter and solve this small problem? What was your solution?
