transitioning to freshwater
Since I can't find a freshwater 109, I'm considering getting a saltwater one and moving it to the great lakes. What are primary areas I should be checking for issues?
Re: transitioning to freshwater
Cool to hear there could be another 109 based in the Great Lakes.
As for specific issues to look for, it would be the same with any other pre purchase survey. As these boats age it becomes important to make sure water inside the boat can move freely toward the bilge and that limber holes are not clogged since standing water can create rot on bulkheads and at the base of the interior woodwork.
If you do bring a saltwater boat into the lakes you will want to make sure that the anodes are changed from Zinc (saltwater use) over to magnesium (fresh water use). There are two of them, one near the prop and the other is in the top of the saildrive on the port side.
Other than that good luck on the search. We're in Lake Erie along with at least 4 others that are based on the same lake between Buffalo and Erie, PA.

Thank you for your input.
I've always heard "never buy a saltwater boat." But, if it's not that old (2004-05), then check the standing rigging and hoses. Otherwise, survey just like any other boat, is my thought.
Trying to confirm that the naysayers are overreacting.
