sheeting angle

Post by cercole »

I'm trying to get up to speed with the rest of the one design guys in my area. I think I need a lot of help with sail trim. I have the boat unloaded and a fairly smooth and clean bottom. I do have my radar pole up. I know this is not helping.

How far in do you sheet the jib? Typically we get it around three inches inboard of the lower spreader tip. Then we try and adjust the car so it's about the same on the upper spreader. I feel like this closes the top of the sail too much and limits the slot size / air flow over the top of the main. What do you guys think?

On the main we set the boom so it's inline with the center of the boat or a couple of inches to leeward and then trim the sheet so all tell tails are flying and the upper one is sometimes hiding behind the sail or flying.

Any tips or tricks here that I'm not doing? Everyone else is faster and or higher... I'm sure my driving is not great but I'm trying to get better.

Thanks for all the help.
