Code Zero Experience

Post by carlbraden »

Hi Guys,

I am seriously thinking of buying a Code0 for flying off the end of the pole and using a furler for it.

Can anyone using a Code0 with the 109 please be so kind as to share your experience, thoughts and opinions?

Thanks

Carl,

I have a Code 0 that the previous owner purchased. Used in the right conditions it is a real weapon. I purchased a Karver furler that works well when there is trained crew. It is strictly for distance racing with little utility for short around the buoy races. The sail plan we use becomes more complex because we run a second set of spin sheets and have a 2nd spin halyard so we can do a peel. In order to properly tension the luff, you should install a bobstay. We also twing the sheet to padeyes installed by the stanchion gates to get a tighter sheeting angle.

You could use a Code 0 without the furler too. It just limits the transition between sails.

Thanks Bill - I will be using your post on the bobstay for an install - extremely helpful.
