2016 J/109 NA Lifeline Measurement

Post by Vento Solare »

This post is to let everyone know that consistent with previous J/109 North American Championship measurement, we will be checking lifeline deflection during 2016 J/109 North American Championship measurement. This measurement is listed on the measurement checklist that the measurement teams will use.

The attached photos show the weight that will be hung in the center of the upper and lower lifeline. Max deflection allowed is 2" for upper and 4" for lower. This is measured by using the lifeline height off the deck at the stanchion, and measuring the deflection midway between two stanchions. It is easy to correct excess deflection by tightening the turnbuckles on the lifelines. The wooden dowels have a sliding scale that is set at the lifeling height by the stanchion. The 2 inch and 4 inch deflections are marked on the template. The template is moved to the midpoint on the lifeline where the 4kg weight is hung to check the deflection.
