2014 Proposed Class Rules Changes

Post by Vento Solare »

I noticed the proposed rules changes that were posted on the class website on 19 January 2014. I believe there is an additional rule change that needs to be addressed.

Class Rule 1.5 states:
1.5 Unless otherwise prescribed in the Notice of Race, advertising on boats entered in J/109 Class and fleet sponsored events shall comply with ISAF Regulation 20, Category A.

Background:
Class Rule 1.5 references ISAF Regulation 20 Category A. This was changed by ISAF in 2009 with a transitional period for 5 years before the rules permanently changed (expired 31 December 2012). The old ISAF language for Category A was for restricted advertising. Category A no longer exists in ISAF Regulation 20. The new ISAF default is to allow advertising. If the J/109 class desires to keep the same rules intention as the old Category A, suggested wording is:

Proposed Class Rule 1.5
1.5 Advertising - Class rules prohibit the display of advertising, except as may be required by the Organizing Authority for class events in accordance with ISAF regulation 20.4.1. Manufacturer’s and Sailmaker’s marks shall always be permitted in accordance with ISAF regulation 20.7.

It is recommended that Class Rule 1.5 be voted on with the proposed change to be current with the ISAF regulations.
