Harken Furling System

Post by mserra »

Anybody knows the difference between MK III Unit 1 and Unit 2 ?
I have a J/109 bought in Netherlands from 2007 built in France. I am trying to find if the boat has Unit 1 or 2 installed..

The J/109 rigging specifications has Unit 1 which is installed on my US built boat.

What type of replacement or upgraded furlers are permitted under the class rules? I've seen some boats with newer, more compact Harken furling units. My original unit still works but I would think the newer models function more smoothly for smaller people pulling the furling line and freeing up more space in the pulpit is always welcome.

The Harken Mark IV Unit 1 is approved by class rules and somewhat more compact than the Mark III it replaces.
