Rudder Leak

Post by carlbraden »

My rudder post is leaking sea water - has anyone repaired this problem?

Can it be repaired in the water or is the boat needed to be lifted and the rudder dropped?

Thanks

Adding a gaiter seems to be a fix for many (including me). There is a discussion about this in a previous post that may be helpful:

In my situation the old gaiter was torn and water push through, especially in stronger sea state.

Mvallus - this is very helpful thanks for your post and the link.

After reading the symptoms on the PYI site where under power there is more water ingress fits my problem exactly.

My rudder bearings were replaced back in 2013 so I am going to go for the split gaiter solution.

Cheers
