Sail Newport hosted the second J/109 Class event for the 2019 East Coast Regatta Series at the Newport Regatta held 6-7 July. Participation was down with only four boats entered in the J/109 Class over the long Independence Day holiday weekend but the competition was still tight. In the end, Growth Spurt was on the podium with top honors.
Congratulations to John Greifzu with his all Corinthia crew on Growth crew taking top honors with a series score of 11 points. Close behind was Bill Kneller and Vento Solare with his all Corinthian crew in second place with a score of 15 points. Ted Herlihy and the Gut Feeling all Corinthian crew placed third, with 16 points followed by Tom Sutton and the Leading Edge all Corinthian crew with 22 points.
There were two days of racing on Narragansett Bay with foggy conditions on Saturday that tried the patience of everyone on the course. Well done to the Sail Newport race committee for keeping the race circle in the only part of the area that had any visibility and being able to get off 6 races over the two days.

The final event in the East Coast Regatta Series is the American YC Fall Series at AYC (21-22, 28–29 September)
