Congratulations to Ted Herlihy and the Gut Feeling crew for winning the J/109 East Coast Championship hosted by Ida Lewis YC the weekend of 8-9 September. The six race series occured over two days with Gut Feeling discarding a 3rd place for a total score of 6 points. Two boats from Texas rounded out the podium with Tom Sutton in Leading Edge in second place with a total of 11 points and Al Goether of Hamburg with a total of 16 points. Hamburg also captured the Corinthian trophy for the best finish out of five boats eligible for the award. The results may be viewed at this link.
The racing and social events put on by Ida Lewis YC was spectacular. Due to the swells pushed up the coast by hurricane Florence, the racing was held in Narragansett Bay. There was great wind all weekend.
Two more J/109 Class sanctioned One Design events are scheduled for this year:
- Sat-Sun 29-30 Sept – AYC Fall Series 2nd Weekend (3rd & Final Event for East Coast Regatta Series)
- Weds-Sun 10-16 Oct – J/109 North American Championship at Larchmont YC
