Pequot Resumes J/109 Invitational

After a one-year hiatus for COVID, Pequot Yacht Club in Southport, CT, resumed its J/109 Invitational Regatta over the weekend of August 7 & 8, 2021.  The theme was the same as 2019–leave the racing sails and pros at home, just get out and sail the J/109!  11 boats jumped at the opportunity, including crews from RI and NY, and several who are new to the one-design circuit.

Long Island Sound delivered a typical summer weekend.  On Saturday, the fleet completed two races in a WSW breeze that really never exceeded 8 knots.  Patience to connect the puffs was rewarded greatly.  After day 1, our host and past-NA-Champion Loki was in the lead, with Incendiary and Growth Spurt in second and third, respectively.

On Sunday, rain storms in the area prevented a steady breeze from settling on the race course.  Despite its valiant efforts, the RC hoisted “AP over A” at 1400.  So, the first day’s results had to stand as the final.  (Full results below).

Despite the on-water portion of the regatta being abbreviated, the porch at Pequot YC served as an excellent venue for cocktails and class camaraderie.
