Cedar Point YC hosted the first J/109 Class event for the 2019 East Coast Regatta Series at the One Design Regatta held 1-2 June. Competition for the three top finishers out of sixteen boats was close throughout the entire series. In the end, Rush was on the podium with top honors.
Congratulations to Bill Sweetser with tactician Tom Babel and the Rush crew taking top honors with a series score of 13 points. Close behind was JR Rechtschaffer and Emoticon with his all Corinthian crew in second place with a score of 20 points. It was Emoticon‘s first one design race in over a year since the boat was hauled for repairs and a new paint job. Julia O-Dowd sailing with Paul “Whirly” van Dyke as tactician and the TBD crew placed third, also with 20 points in the series.
Bill Sweetser and the Rush crew were recognized with an additional award as the best boat of the regatta which also included J/105, J/88, J/70 and Beneteau 36.7 classes.
There were two days of racing in light shifty conditions that tried the patience of everyone on the course. Well done to the Cedar Point YC race committee for being able to get off 7 races over the two days.
