Sprit Fest

Jim Vos asked me to forward a reminder that Sprit Fest will take place the weekend of 6/4-6/5 at Breakwater Yacht Club in Sag Harbor. As many of you know this is a fun event with great sailing and equally great parties.

Sprit Fest also positions boats that are planning to participate in Storm Trysail’s Block Island Race Week (6/20-6/24) for an easy delivery out to Block Island. We currently have 16 boats registered for that event and hopefully more to come! As of now there are more J109s registered than any other one design class! This event will serve as the J109 East Coast Championship. I look forward to seeing many of you out there! The registration procedure (crew lists, sail inspection, class membership) will be the same as in prior years. I will post the details on the J109 Class website shortly and circulate them by email to participants that have already registered.

For those of you who are planning to linger a while longer in western Long Island Sound, Cedar Point Yacht Club is hosting their One Design Regatta also on 6/4-6/5. I have been approached by a group of owners interested in getting a one design start for that event. While I don’t generally think it is a great idea to hold competing events the same weekend, the fact is that there are two opportunities available for J109 one design starts and I hope you will consider supporting one of those events.

We are optimistic that the strong turnouts for the Annapolis NOOD (10 boats), Block Island Race Week (16 boats so far) and Sprit Fest (6 boats so far) signal a resurgence in J109 class participation after a difficult couple of years. Thanks so much for supporting the Class. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,
Rick
