Just to tidy up this thread, I posted more on putting the chain plates back and getting the tie bars right on this thread: viewtopic.php?t=1559

Re: Deck Chainplates
Hi Dan,
This may be the problem: https://j109.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1506
And if it is, just taking it all apart and re-beading will not fix it. I just found notes from the first owner indicating that it had been "fixed" that way before, and, of course, it leaked again, so check for this ...

Correct Edson Parts For Steering Rebuild
I just rebuilt the steering on hull 167 (2004 US TPI Built).
Looked like no one had maintained the steering gear since the boat was built and nothing was greased, so long overdue. Also the brake no longer held the wheel and there was play in everything.

Re: Leak from Chainplate bolts
Hi again Bill,
Just to be clear, turn counting won't work to get the length of the tie bar right. (We tried it) Just two many variables in deck deflection, how tight the top fitting is screwed down, and exactly how the tie bar thread goes together.

Re: Leak from Chainplate bolts
Hi Bill,
I have had the whole assembly out of my boat. You probably won't need that special wrench. Just use a half inch wrench to loosen the tie bar. You will need to do that anyway to get the assembly apart.
Once the tie bar is loose the top cone will unscrew from the deck plate probably by hand ...

Re: Chain plate construction error resulting in deck distortion
Thanks for coming up. Sounds like TPI were really not paying attention on this issue.
We now have it fixed as described.
While we were at this, we pulled the full chain plate assembles and had them NDT tested, which they passed.
We also found a chain plate knee port side coming away from the hull ...

Chain plate construction error resulting in deck distortion
I'm a new owner of hull number 187 built in 2004 in the USA by TPI.
We noticed that the chain plates were leaking through the deck. When investigating further we found that the deck was dished in forward of both plates (starboard worst) and the trim rings under the deck badly deformed.
We assumed ...

Wanted: Trailer and anchor Roller
I just bought a 109 hull number 167 built in 2004 and am looking to buy a trailer and class anchor roller. The trailer will be used for moving the boat only about a quarter of a mile and for winter storage, so does not need to be robust enough for long distance highway road transport. That said it ...
