I am not convinced by this change. While it is beneficial for distance racing I feel it will encourage boats to add reaching kites to the one-design inventory.

Re: In Hauler Systems
I think we should make this change - it is relatively inexpensive and will be simpler than using the lazy sheet. A further benefit is that it will save wear on the mast boot.

Re: Batten getting caught on backstay in light air
A soft top batten helps with this light airs but I still frequently have to flick the backstay.

Re: Is adding a Cam Cleat on Mast allowed?
It is not legal to add a cleat to the mast. The J109 rules only allow hardware to be added in specific circumstances.
If you want to put a cleat on the mast for use during handicap racing this must be rendered inoperable when used for class racing.

New Class Officers !
Bill Sweetser, the owner of Rush, is chairing the nominating committee for the J109 class board. He has sent an email to all J109 owners which I am posting here in case any one has been missed.

The J109's will have a one design start at the Blue Water regatta on 12-13 August. Saturday first start will be a t 14:00 which should give us a decent sea breeze. It would be great if a few boats from LIS could make it down the East River to the Jersey shore.
