Cabin top halyard tail bags
Does anyone have a good source for replacement cabin top halyard bags?
Is it a custom job for sailmakers or can they be ordered from a canvas company?
I'm guessing that either of those sources might be good. Just wondering what other owners have done and what materials have worked best?

Blue Performance has very good halyard bags that came with our J/109, but we have migrated to sending the lines down the windows and companionway at the urging of our sailmaker, and have found no downside to that. We did try a halyard bag on the wall of the head to keep the lines off the floor, but it goes unused.

Thanks Dan. We also send the lines down the companionway. I stopped using the windows because replacing the window gaskets from the lines wearing them out is a pain.
We use the sheet bags to stow the halyards while on the mooring (or the reef lines, etc.).

Oh, is that maintenance task ahead of me
Where to get the parts, what labor and tools is involved to do it myself, what to look out for, how much time does it take?

HI Dan the Ronstan Medium Rope Bags will fit in the space on the cabin top parallel to the hatch and forward of the winch and rope clutches. There's another J109 in The Bay Area that has those, and on quite a few J-105s have them installed there. I have not installed yet. I did put three of them in the cockpit and the crew is okay with that. I don't like using the windows. Here is the link to the Ronstan bags, which come with stick on adhesive or you can mount them with screws. https://www.ronstan.us/marine5/product. ... dNo=RF3910

I meant the question to be about the window, having used windows for ropes, I am imagining this maintenance task of the seals is in my future
