I am being told by a few riggers that I should have my rod ends redone since the boat is about 13 years old. I have not heard of any J109s having an issue or losing a rig due to rod failures. What have people experienced or have had done to their rigs and rod.

I am having the rod rigging reterminated this off season by Rigpro. When the original ends were swedged on, the rigger used a machine that peened the end onto the rod so that they could not be unscrewed to inspect them and had to be cut off. I think the original work was done by Hall Spars when the boats were built at TPI. Rigpro has cut off all the end fittings and is reterminating where they can. You loose about two rod diameters for each retermination. Because of the bend by the upper spreader, the V1s and D1s are being replaced since the bend effectively moves if the upper part is reterminated.
The new fittings will be screwed in and held using red Loctite rather than having the fitting peened. This means that when they need to be inspected in the future, the fitting can be heated with a torch to break the Loctite and then unscrewed to inspect.
I know 2 other boats in our area that are having this done.
