I have recently bought a J109, #174. It currently does not have the 2 bookshelf and cupboard combination on each side. I would like to add them. Does anyone have any advice as to what's involved in doing this? Or have any of you removed yours and would like to sell them?
Thanks.

John,
Sorry to say, not so simple.

Pearson Composites (ex-TPI) has, or at least had, templates and jigs. Problem is, they're running with a skeleton crew, and from what I understand it's hard to get anybody to answer the phone. If there's still a carpenter on staff, they might welcome the work.

Or you can get your yard's carpentry shop, or an independent marine joiner, to do the job. Best if you could find another J/109 to take measurements from. But be sure to template off your own hull.

Hulls before #150 had plywood inlay doors. After #150, they went to louvered half-overlays, at considerably higher price. Everything else is pre-finished cherry ply and cherry boards.

The shelves were apparently not designed to be removed. I'm almost certain that they're tabbed in with vinylester and fiberglass tape.

Good luck,
Dan
