(Westport, CT)- J/Sailors were waiting with breathless anticipation for a solid weekend of racing in spectacular weather on Long Island Sound last weekend for the Cedar Point One-Design Regatta hosted by Cedar Point Yacht Club.
The weather Godz cooperated (for once) and delivered amazing breezes out of the southwest to west-southwest both days. A massive High-pressure system parked offshore to the southwest and a Low-pressure system parked over Canada conspired together to produce a steady southwesterly flow for nearly three days. Absolutely perfect “shorts and shades” weather in 75-degree temps!
The huge seventeen-boat J/109 class had closely fought competition between the top five boats, with the lead changing every leg in seesaw battles for seven races. In the end, the most consistent team with three 1sts, two 2nds, and three 4ths was David Rosow’s LOKI, winning with 11 pts net. Trevor Roach’s INCENDIARY sailed one of their best regattas to take the silver with 18 pts net. Rounding out the podium was Jonathan Rechtschaffer’s EMOTICON with 20 pts net. The balance of the top five included Will Rogers’ BIG BOAT in fourth and Bengt & Marie Johansson’s ZIG ZAG in fifth place. For more Cedar Point One-Design Regatta sailing information
