Leaking Salt Water Pump? How to rebuild
This spring I noticed a leaking salt water pump on my older ~2003 J109, and I rebuilt the pump on camera. It is a Johnson pump, fitted on the 3GM30FC engine, likely similar to what many who visit this forum have. If you have a similar problem, or if you want to know what it takes to rebuild this ...

Tuning the wind gauge?
Does anybody have experience with tuning their wind instruments on the J 109? Reading through my B&G Hydra 2000 manual, there is the option for the owner to program an adjustment curve for wind instrument output based on wind conditions and point of sail. For example they note a tendency for some ...

Re: J109 special tricks
The main thing I've noticed through the years is how a big genoa can depower the J109 main and make pointing very difficult. With a 105% jib and barber haulers I do much better upwind. In some races with big wind we fare pretty well with just the main for the windward mark leg. Yup, in big wind the ...

Re: How to replace the outhaul sheet
For an update as to how I solved the problem, hop over to this thread in the forum. The pulley system in my boat was 14:1, very complex.

Re: Engine control cables
Thanks for the shoutout regarding my old video, it was fun to make. My cables are now so smooth that it is a bit of a problem. I haven't found a way to tighten down the handle enough to hold the speed regulator in one place during low rpm use. It holds fine at idle, medium and high speed.

Video showing how the J/109 outhaul works
If you wonder how the mysterious outhaul pulley system in the J/109 boom works, or if you wonder why the outhaul line is so long, or if you've lost the outhaul inside the boom, you will want to watch a 5 minute video outlining what I found. In my case I used class II line to route the control back ...

How to replace the outhaul sheet
I have a 2003 J-109, and decided to move the control for the outhaul back to an unused clutch in the cockpit. I think the outhaul is original, 1/4" diameter line that was held in an adjustable cleat on the outside of the boom. Unfortunately the cockpit clutches require minimum diameter 5/16" line to ...
